Jeffrey Cornell Coachman Said: Good Keyboard ( Nov. 18th 2009 )
At around $200.00USD, this is not a cheap Keyboard, but if you think about the reasons why you would want a keyboard like this, the cost becomes more justified. The first thing I will say is that I *Did not* buy this keyboard for Gaming. I bought it *Only* for the programmability, so if you are thinking of buying this for gaming, you may want to skip this review. :-) Now, there are programs that will store keyboard macros. The issue with those programs is that, with hundreds of programs, having different functionality, there are simply not enough keyboard "shortcuts" to go around (using the standard keyboard key combinations). I wanted *ONE* dedicated key for each operation. There are also separate programmable "Keypads" that you can buy, but I really could not spare the desktop real estate. Also the largest of these keypads has about 24 keys, with this keyboard you can have 36 macros. (12 keys x 3 modes) PROS: - You can get up and running with your macros in only a few minutes. - I always thought that Illuminated Keyboards were a novelty, but not anymore; this feature is great in low-light environments. - There are 12 dedicated keys, but 3 macro "Modes", making it possible to have 36 macros. - You can insert a TextFile as a Macro. This is a great feature, as many time you have text that you commonly use (Disclaimers, Signatures, Opening/closing statements, ...ect), that are in text form, or are too long to be retyped as macros. As far as I can tell, this great feature is not advertised. ;-) - The ability to decide if you want the recorded Macros to be stored/played back with or without the actual keyboarding delays. - Relatively easy to reassign the keys CONS: - No PC power control keys (Shutdown, Sleep, Wakeup, ...etc) - You can't readily change a Textfile Macro into a "Recorded" macro, (and vice versa) - For me the Tab keystrokes in the TextFile Macros did not work exactly the same in MS Programming environments VBA, VB6. Multiple Tabs would seem to "Stack" when indenting code (This is difficult to reproduce here, ...to solve this, I simply "recorded" the textfile) - For me the small screen was difficult to program. I really did not need it anyway, so I just use it as a Clock. - No available options for creating/ordering custom key caps. - Because you do not have customizable key caps, you may have to constantly call up the taskbar app to see what your keystrokes do (until you start to memorize them over time.) - It is not inherently obvious how to edit recorded Macros. It can be done, but the macro seems to "double" each keystroke. (KeyDown, KeyUp?) - No "Big" Enter key. INDIFFERENT: Multi color backlighting Multimedia controls. Keyboard mini-screen "Gaming" mode Spare USB ports CONCLUSION If you need the ability to record and playback keystrokes, this is a great keyboard. If you are a big-time gamer, it is probably worth much more to you. In my humble opinion, it is well worth the $200.00USD. JeffCoachman

Daniel Chad Lynch Said: Warning ASUS users ( Nov. 9th 2009 )
This keyboard is really amazing. I love the feel of the keys, how it's green glow matches my tower and G9x mouse. However, I was unaware that it causes problems with the boot process of ASUS motherboards. I've got a P5Q SER and every time I reboot, I have to unplug the keyboard and then plug it back in after the POST. Also, it will always say that it's "new hardware" even though all the drivers and programs are intact and running. You can change your USB speed from full speed to hispeed...but I try not to alter the settings in my BIOS much.
R. Clanderman Said: Great Gaming Keyboard ( Nov. 9th 2009 )
The Logitech G19 is a very good to great keyboard for gaming. The lighted keys and color choices available for same really make a difference in low light and makes it easy to spot the key your looking for. The programable macros are really nice but so far I havent set too many. The lcd screen makes it easy to monitor different functions or even check emails while gaming and for a small screen it is amazingly sharp. I really like the roller volume control but wish it had a click or some sort of definition. However there are several caveats. Do NOT buy this a a general use keyboard. The price and the extra keys and macros would not work for a speed typist. The caps lock key is set too close to the "a" key and can cause unintentional caps if your typing fast. There is a key that you can set for gaming but it doesnt lock out the caps key. The menu key and programable buttons take a little bit to get used to but are well worth the effort. All in all I would give this keyboard a 4 1/2 star rating but I stress again that I use it for gaming.
Ryan Chap Said: Fun Novelty, Not a Necessity ( Nov. 5th 2009 )
To be fair and up front, I would have never considered buying this keyboard had I not received a bit of extra cash at the time. I was in the market for a new keyboard and with money burning a hole in my pocket, I bought this as a treat to myself. The add-ons are not necessary, even for an avid gamer like myself. And for $200, this keyboard is not worth the exorbitant price. The LCD screen is cool and so is the back lighting, but it's not two hundred dollars worth of features. But if you have money to burn, buying this G19 isn't a bad idea. My only complaint is that the learning curve is high on this board. It comes with absolutely zero detailed instructions on how to set things up, or how to change the backlight colors. The user interface for the software is sadly sub-par in this respect, leaving the owner to wander around buttons hoping to find what they need on their own. I still don't know why the little screen says I have mail, when I haven't bothered to link any of my e-mails to the software. Odd. Anyway, it's a fun board in spite of the hiccups. The screen is small but the resolution is very clear, so watching YouTube videos while playing video games is quite possible. For WoW players, it displays your character stats, a map of the battleground you're in and a chat log. Sadly, they fell incredibly short on the last two. The battleground map shows your position, as well as one other teammate's. Not your whole team. Just one other random guy. That throws me off constantly, and makes me wonder why they made it support one extra icon when it would make more sense to just have it show you, and only you. Also, with the chat log, it only displays Auction House alerts and whispers. And even those are limited. I think the software developers could have done more on this end. These flaws definitely keep this board at a "neat gadget" title rather than "necessary gaming equipment." Essentially, the only thing that meets my expectations is the back lighting. It's great. The lights work. But certainly you can find a keyboard that has backlighting - even without the ability to choose every color of the rainbow - that isn't $200. If you've got money burning a hole in your wallet, and no other bills you could satisfy with it, go ahead and pick this board up. But if you're on any kind of a budget, pass this one up. This is the kind of keyboard you see on display somewhere, tinker around for a few minutes because it looks cool, and quickly become bored with the limited features and move on elsewhere.
